Until very recently, I worked all of my life as a tax accountant. In that profession, you are called upon to provide detailed reports for hundreds of entities to federal and state taxing authorities. The rules for these reports are codified in thousands of pages of law. In addition to these there are standards codified by the states to which you are held accountable and permitted to practice by certification and license.

When an error is made you are allowed to amend returns to correct the error and of course pay any additional tax that would be required.

In God’s economy when an error is made we are called to repent. We are led to that repentance by God’s kindness.

Romans 2:4 God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

What God gives us, we are called to give to others in need.

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

Whatever we give will be given back to us.

Luke 6:38 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

We are called upon to remember God’s economy is a free flowing economy.

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Generosity Encouraged

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

The world’s economy and God’s economy are incomparable; but in the Word they intersect.

Proverbs 11:24 24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
    another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
