Come Back to the LORD-Day 21 Wednesday, Apr 11 2018

Today is the last day of our 21 day series “Come Back to the LORD”. The Scripture to which I would like to draw your attention is found in the book of Psalms, chapter 119, verses 161-168:

Shin.

161 Princes persecute me without cause,
But my heart stands in awe of Your words.
162 I rejoice at Your [a]word,
As one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and despise falsehood,
But I love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your righteous ordinances.
165 Those who love Your law have great peace,
And [b]nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I hope for Your salvation, O Lord,
And do Your commandments.
167 My soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my ways are before You.

For we know: 1 John 4:3-5

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them.

Back to the LORD-Day 15 Thursday, Apr 5 2018

Today’s Scripture is at Psalms 119:113-120

Samekh.

113 I hate those who are double-minded,
But I love Your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I [a]wait for Your word.
115 Depart from me, evildoers,
That I may observe the commandments of my God.
116 Sustain me according to Your [b]word, that I may live;
And do not let me be [c]ashamed of my hope.
117 Uphold me that I may be safe,
That I may have regard for Your statutes continually.
118 You have [d]rejected all those who wander from Your statutes,
For their deceitfulness is [e]useless.
119 You have [f]removed all the wicked of the earth like dross;
Therefore I love Your testimonies.
120 My flesh [g]trembles for fear of You,
And I am afraid of Your judgments.

For we know: Psalm 32:6-7

 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [a]in a time when You may be found;
Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with [b]songs of deliverance. Selah.

My Peace Wednesday, Jan 10 2018

Today’s verse can be found in the book of John chapter 14 verse 27: 27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

This may be one of the most precious gifts God gives us. Do we fully understand how this gift works in our lives? When Jesus instructed his disciples he told them, “Freely you received, freely give.” In those same instructions he said, “As you enter the [n]house, give it your [o]greeting. 13 If the house is worthy, [p]give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, [q]take back your blessing of peace.”

This peace is so precious that He does not want it wasted on the unworthy. When you give your peace to others it is multiplied within your own life. “Not as the world gives,” he said. In the world when you give something to someone else it means that you no longer have it. But peace multiplies in the giving. You never know how many people will benefit from the peace you share with others. It is like a “ripple effect” that spreads when you throw a pebble into a pond. It spreads out around over and over.

In Psalm 29:11 it says: 11 [a]The Lord will give strength to His people;
[b]The Lord will bless His people with peace.

God has a plan in giving you His peace: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all [a]comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

God has a purpose in giving you His peace: 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off [a]have been brought near [b]by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the [c]barrier of the dividing wall, 15 [d]by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might [e]make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace…

God has a reason to give you His peace: 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

He Himself is our peace so we will abound in hope.

My Earnest Expectation Saturday, Jan 6 2018

Today’s verses can be found in the book of Philippians the first chapter verses 19-21.

Philippians 1:19-21New American Standard Bible (NASB)

19 for I know that this will turn out for my [a]deliverance through your [b]prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

To Live Is Christ

21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

It is my earnest expectation that these scriptures will manifest for me in Christ.

My desire is to glorify God in my body in everything that I do. This desire comes from being saved. When you are saved you get this desire in your heart.  That will become your primary desire above all else.

Another desire I have is to pray. Seeking God’s face is like a thirst in my spirit.

A third desire is to be in the WORD. I’m not talking about skimming a few verses every day. I’m talking about a hunger for the meat of the word. I’m in it to chew on it. To meditate on it. To pray about it. “Lord, What are you trying to teach me in these passages?”

I have an overwhelming desire to hear the teachings of the Holy Spirit.

Another desire is to worship. Not just by myself; I want to worship with a big crowd. I want God to be so glorified by our corporate worship that He shows up with bands of angels to sing along.

This is what is meant by being renewed in the spirit of your mind. The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. Even if salvation was the only thing that God ever gave me that would be enough. But that isn’t all there is to it. There’s unmerited favor. This is God’s grace. I could rant on and on about what is included in the package of  gifts given to the believer but suffice it to say that this world can’t contain it all.

Each day is filled with great expectations.

Manna Tuesday, Jul 4 2017

Ice wings feathered across the morning light.

Only one last chance to see the right.

By God’s grace we’ll fly beyond the veil,

And see the mist of morning’s descending quail.

God’s provision, manna to the soul.

And meat within the vision of the bowl.

Let us honor God our Lord true.

His lessons learned on cue.

And let not our rapture dim

The love of God within.

For by His grace we honor Him.

Collide our questions in His view

As His love we renew.

Each new day our hearts ascend

To the Lord; our forever friend.

How to Be Happy Thursday, Jan 16 2014

James tells us: 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

And the Psalmist says in 34: The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

Matthew the tax collector records Christ’s admonitions in the beatitudes: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

It is not what you expected is it? That happiness would come out of mourning, and persecution and enduring temptation?

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Being offended by God can run you into a dilemma real quick.

15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

I just love how Jesus refers to the “milk of the WORD” being lasting, eternal, when we keep it. It means to do it. The reason “keeping the Word” makes us happy is because it is then that we are right with God. What a joyous thing to be right with our creator. Of all the things you do to be happy, I hope you will always keep the WORD in your heart. The WORD is Jesus.

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Blessings come from God. It is a part of His plan to bless us.

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Our hope for happiness is in Him.
