My God My Neighbor Sunday, Oct 28 2018

Today’s scripture may be found in Exodus chapter 20 verses 1-17:

20 Then God spoke all these words, saying,

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [a]slavery.

“You shall have no other gods [b]before Me.

“You shall not make for yourself [c]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not [d]leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who [e]stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

15 “You shall not steal.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

And also John 1:17 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth [a]were realized through Jesus Christ.

When God gave Moses the law it came on two tablets. The first tablet has all the commandments relating to God. The second tablet has all the commandments relating to ourselves and others.

And also Matthew 22:35-40

35 One of them, [n]a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [o]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

The problem is we put the second before the first. We love our neighbor and ourselves before we love God.

With the world there is dread, trials tribulations, frustrations, emptiness, crisis, and lawlessness.

What is the value of our beliefs? Why are we so robbed of our blessings? The light shines in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not. We can’t see what the problem is because we have our priorities all mixed up. The law shines the light on that. The law points out our need for Christ. That is the function of the law? God is Holy.

Why did God give Moses the law? Why did Moses come first then Jesus? Why didn’t Jesus just come right away and get us all out of this mess? That question focuses  on putting man’s way above God’s way. It puts us as the focus instead of God. God should be first and our fellowman second. The world puts the second table first. Without God we can do nothing.

How can we love our neighbor as ourselves with all the disunity? Do we love ourselves? The only way we can know the truth is when God’s law shines its’ light upon us.

The world wants to know how to get practical knowledge in order to cope in the world. How to get through the current crisis. They want to know how to get through with it all. Of course we need help. The nation needs help. But we can’t always start with ourselves and others and then call on God as a last resort in desperation.

We are all just like Adam. We point the finger and say it wasn’t me, it was the woman you gave me. We blame others for what we do. Look at the nations. Same story. There is nothing wrong with me or my country.

James 4:1-3

[a]What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? [b]Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask [c]with wrong motives, so that you may spend it [d]on your pleasures.

We need to start with God.

As Christians it is possible for us to stand in the presence of God before the throne of grace. Introduce ourselves to the ten commandments in the exact order they are given. He is the only God. He is Almighty. He is Sovereign. He is the Creator and Sustain-er of the whole universe. God is Spirit. God is Holy. He demands our total allegiance. We are to worship only Him.

In the world, people live for their children, their wives, their jobs, their possessions, their desires, their accomplishments and successes. They live entirely for themselves.

God is a jealous God, a righteous God, a just God. Jesus did not come to destroy the law but to “fulfill” it. Matthew 5:18 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

God is judging us all this present hour. We are reaping our own rewards.

There is only one test. What is your relationship with God? Do you worship Him, love Him, keep His commandments?

God has a purpose-to bring us out of bondage. God is preparing Christians for that purpose. His Kingdom shall reign and rule over all.

My Church My Call Saturday, Oct 27 2018

The scriptures for today may be found in the book of Luke chapter 7 verses 41-50:

41 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred [a]denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. 47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 Then He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” 49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say [b]to themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” 50 And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

And also the book of John chapter 1 verse 17:

17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth [a]were realized through Jesus Christ.

Why isn’t the church filled with joy and peace and contentment?

One of the primary reasons is because they say that grace and truth are in the law. But here it says grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. We know God’s law is truthful and has always been so the conclusion is that we need the law. One of the reasons Christ came to live among us is to correct the misuse of God’s law.

What is the value of all of this for us?

It is the “fullness of Christ”. You see the law was a foreshadowing of Christ. So now we have a marriage of grace and truth. A “better” way.

Why is it we are not more thankful to God for the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus?

Many churches today dismiss the law and say, “We don’t have to bother with that anymore. We are saved by faith.”

But grace does not dismiss the law. Romans 3:31 Do we then nullify [a]the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law. It helps us to realize we need forgiveness.

What is the state of your love to the LORD your God?

You will never appreciate grace until you realize your need forgiveness.  Have you ever known deep repentance?

47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.

Unless you know the depth of your iniquity and your need of Christ you will never know the love.

Some think that sin is anything that messes up my life. If I could just stop doing this or that I would be perfect and everything would be alright. But sin is against God. They aren’t concerned with God. They just want to be happy. They want happiness rather than holiness.

Matthew 5:“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Living in a worldly way comes when we dismiss the law of God which leads to a “false joy”. We should examine ourselves in view of the law. The other problem is mixing the law and grace. The moment you begin to miss them you have no joy at all because you are constantly going back under the law again. We are under grace.

Prayer diminishes when we are under the law. Here we go, “I failed again.”

With grace you are sanctified. With the world you need to be circumcised along with Christ. They always try to add something to it. You have to do this or that in order to be saved and you are constantly frustrated going from religion to religion looking for the truth. But truth without grace is not enough.

Galatians 5:1-3

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law.

Psalms 19 Thursday, Apr 12 2018

The Scripture I would like to draw your attention to this morning is found in the book of Psalms, chapter 19. I think it is a fitting finish to the 21 day Psalms 119 study we concluded yesterday.

19 The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their [a]line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a tent for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
Its rising is from [b]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [c]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

The law of the Lord is [d]perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins;
Let them not rule over me;
Then I will be [e]blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

For we know Matthew 5:16 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Come Back to the LORD-Day 21 Wednesday, Apr 11 2018

Today is the last day of our 21 day series “Come Back to the LORD”. The Scripture to which I would like to draw your attention is found in the book of Psalms, chapter 119, verses 161-168:

Shin.

161 Princes persecute me without cause,
But my heart stands in awe of Your words.
162 I rejoice at Your [a]word,
As one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and despise falsehood,
But I love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your righteous ordinances.
165 Those who love Your law have great peace,
And [b]nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I hope for Your salvation, O Lord,
And do Your commandments.
167 My soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my ways are before You.

For we know: 1 John 4:3-5

and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them.

Come Back to the LORD-Day 20 Tuesday, Apr 10 2018

The Scripture to which I would like to draw your attention today can be found in the book of Psalms, chapter 119, verses 153-160:

Resh.

153 Look upon my affliction and rescue me,
For I do not forget Your law.
154 Plead my cause and redeem me;
Revive me according to Your [bq]word.
155 Salvation is far from the wicked,
For they do not seek Your statutes.
156 [br]Great are Your mercies, O Lord;
Revive me according to Your ordinances.
157 Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
Yet I do not turn aside from Your testimonies.
158 I behold the treacherous and loathe them,
Because they do not keep Your [bs]word.
159 Consider how I love Your precepts;
Revive me, O Lord, according to Your lovingkindness.
160 The sum of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

For we know Psalms 136:6-8

For though the Lord is exalted,
Yet He regards the lowly,
But the haughty He knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will [a]revive me;
You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
The Lord will accomplish what concerns me;
Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Come Back to the LORD-Day 19 Monday, Apr 9 2018

Today’s Scripture is found in the book of Psalms, chapter 119, verses 145-152:

Qoph.

145 I cried with all my heart; answer me, O Lord!
I will observe Your statutes.
146 I cried to You; save me
And I shall keep Your testimonies.
147 I [bn]rise before dawn and cry for help;
I [bo]wait for Your words.
148 My eyes anticipate the night watches,
That I may meditate on Your [bp]word.
149 Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness;
Revive me, O Lord, according to Your ordinances.
150 Those who follow after wickedness draw near;
They are far from Your law.
151 You are near, O Lord,
And all Your commandments are truth.
152 Of old I have known from Your testimonies
That You have founded them forever.

For we know Isaiah 26:8-10:

Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O Lord,
We have waited for You eagerly;
Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls.
At night [a]my soul longs for You,
Indeed, [b]my spirit within me seeks You diligently;
For when the earth [c]experiences Your judgments
The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
10 Though the wicked is shown favor,
He does not learn righteousness;
He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness,
And does not perceive the majesty of the Lord.

Come Back to the LORD-Day 18 Sunday, Apr 8 2018

Today’s Scripture is at Psalms 119:137-145

Tsadhe.

137 Righteous are You, O Lord,
And upright are Your judgments.
138 You have commanded Your testimonies in righteousness
And exceeding faithfulness.
139 My zeal has [a]consumed me,
Because my adversaries have forgotten Your words.
140 Your [b]word is very [c]pure,
Therefore Your servant loves it.
141 I am small and despised,
Yet I do not forget Your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law is truth.
143 Trouble and anguish have [d]come upon me,
Yet Your commandments are my delight.
144 Your testimonies are righteous forever;
Give me understanding that I may live.

For we know John 2:17 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.”

Come Back to the LORD-Day 16 Friday, Apr 6 2018

Today’s Scripture may be found at Psalm 119:121-128

Ayin.

121 I have done justice and righteousness;
Do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Be surety for Your servant for good;
Do not let the arrogant oppress me.
123 My eyes fail with longing for Your salvation
And for Your righteous [a]word.
124 Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness
And teach me Your statutes.
125 I am Your servant; give me understanding,
That I may know Your testimonies.
126 It is time for the Lord to act,
For they have broken Your law.
127 Therefore I love Your commandments
Above gold, yes, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything,
I hate every false way.

For we know Deuteronomy 4:29-30

29 But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice.

Back to the LORD-Day 15 Thursday, Apr 5 2018

Today’s Scripture is at Psalms 119:113-120

Samekh.

113 I hate those who are double-minded,
But I love Your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I [a]wait for Your word.
115 Depart from me, evildoers,
That I may observe the commandments of my God.
116 Sustain me according to Your [b]word, that I may live;
And do not let me be [c]ashamed of my hope.
117 Uphold me that I may be safe,
That I may have regard for Your statutes continually.
118 You have [d]rejected all those who wander from Your statutes,
For their deceitfulness is [e]useless.
119 You have [f]removed all the wicked of the earth like dross;
Therefore I love Your testimonies.
120 My flesh [g]trembles for fear of You,
And I am afraid of Your judgments.

For we know: Psalm 32:6-7

 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [a]in a time when You may be found;
Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with [b]songs of deliverance. Selah.

Come Back to the LORD- Day 10 Saturday, Mar 31 2018

The Scriptures for today may be found in the book of Psalms chapter 119 verses 73-80:

Yodh.

73 Your hands made me and [a]fashioned me;
Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
74 May those who [b]fear You see me and be glad,
Because I [c]wait for Your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are righteous,
And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
76 O may Your lovingkindness [d]comfort me,
According to Your [e]word to Your servant.
77 May Your compassion come to me that I may live,
For Your law is my delight.
78 May the arrogant be ashamed, for they subvert me with a lie;
But I shall meditate on Your precepts.
79 May those who [f]fear You turn to me,
Even those who know Your testimonies.
80 May my heart be [g]blameless in Your statutes,
So that I will not be ashamed.

For we know Psalm 139:12-14

12 Even the darkness is not dark [a]to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.

13 For You formed my [b]inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for [c]I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
