God’s Hiding Place Friday, Sep 22 2017

Job 22:14 ‘Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see;
He walks on the [a]vault of heaven.’

The LORD inhabits the praises of His people.

50 “Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the nations,
And I will sing praises to Your name.

Psalm 108:2-4King James Version (KJV)

Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reaches unto the clouds.

Psalm 91 He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him.

1 Chronicles 16:9-11New International Version (NIV)

Sing to him, sing praise to him;
    tell of all his wonderful acts.
10 Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Look to the Lord and his strength;
    seek his face always.

1 Chronicles 22:18-19New International Version (NIV)

18 He said to them, “Is not the Lord your God with you? And has he not granted you rest on every side? For he has given the inhabitants of the land into my hands, and the land is subject to the Lord and to his people. 19 Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the Lord.”

Psalm 27:7-9New International Version (NIV)

Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
    be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”
    Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Do not hide your face from me,
    do not turn your servant away in anger;
    you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
    God my Savior.

When we worship God it ushers in His Holy Spirit. He is not hiding. It says that those who seek Him will find Him.

1 Chronicles 16:25-36Amplified Bible (AMP)

25
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared [with awe-filled reverence] above all gods.
26
For all the gods of the peoples are [lifeless] idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27
Splendor and majesty are [found] in His presence;
Strength and joy are [found] in His place (sanctuary).
28
Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Ascribe to the Lord glory and honor and strength.
29
Ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due His name;
Bring an offering [of thanksgiving], and come before Him;
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
30
Tremble [reverently] before Him, all the earth;
The world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
31
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
32
Let the sea roar, and all the things that fill it;
Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.
33
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord;
For He comes to judge and govern the earth.
34
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
35
Then say, “Save us, O God of our salvation;
Gather us together and rescue us from the nations,
That we may give thanks to Your holy name,
And glory in Your praise.”
36
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
Forever and ever.

And all the people said, “Amen,” and praised the Lord.

Long Ago

Long ago, at the time when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, he became pretty impressed by God’s involvement in the protection of the Israelites.

Our story begins in the book of Exodus, Chapter 15:1-13

15 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.

Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.

The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.

Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

Can you hear Moses singing? Did you know that God led Israel to the promise land? He is leading us now to himself. Praise his holy name.

How to Worship God Thursday, Jan 9 2014

In yesterday’s post we talked about How to Read the Bible, today we are going to talk about How to Worship God.

Many people think of worship as only singing in church on Sunday with accompaniment under the direction of the minister of music. While this method is effective in ushering in the Holy Spirit to your service each week, how on earth do you keep Him close the rest of the week without the band and choir to back you up?

Be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Remember in the LORD’s Prayer the line that says, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven?” Imagine yourself standing at the very entrance to heaven with one hand and one foot in heaven and one hand and one foot on earth. Your worship should bring you to this place where there would be no difference between heaven and earth. The angels are worshipping in heaven and you are worshipping on earth.

The whole point of this worship is to usher in the Holy Spirit, to watch what He does, and to copy it. Heal the sick, comfort the down hearted, be an ever present help in times of trouble. Put your hand to His hand and learn from the Master the gift of compassion. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Worship is a time of thanksgiving. It reminds me of that song I learned as a child, “Thank-you LORD for saving my soul. Thank-you LORD for making me whole.”

Accepting the gift of salvation is the core of this time with the LORD. Put your arms out in front of you as if receiving a gift and say, “Thank-you LORD for your free gift of salvation. I accept it. Now change my heart and change my life. Make me a new creature in Christ.”

Speaking to yourself about who God is to you. A Psalm I like is Psalm 8.

8 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Imagine, there are 150 Psalms! If you ever want to learn about the character of God, you can find it in this book. The psalmists sang to the LORD from the depth of their hearts. They knew Him and trusted Him.

Having a time of worship before you study the bible each day can be a powerful experience, but some of my best times of worship are while I am doing other things; multi-tasking like doing the dishes or walking the dog. And yes, I hear the music in my head. I feel the rhythm in my feet.

Making melody in your heart to the LORD includes writing your own Psalms. I began doing this as a child and find it a joy.

I will end with this admonition from Paul to the Colossians:

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
